Equipped to Teach

"Insights on Organization and Structure of Subject Matter as a Principle of Learning"

To thoroughly learn, we need to be equipped with knowledge and education to expand our minds to pursue our full potential. This would not be possible without the role of teaching. It is by no means new to others that teaching, and learning are processes that goes hand by hand and are interconnected. One cannot exist without the other. A teacher needs a learner to be imparted with knowledge and a learner needs a teacher to acquire knowledge.

Now each learners have each of their own ways of breaking down and absorbing knowledge obtained, and it is up to the role and duty of the teachers to deliver and impart knowledge without no one being left behind. This can be an extremely tough task. That is why research has come up with a series of teaching and learning principles that helps in educating learners regardless of the way they learn. And among the series of principles of teaching and learning, what intrigued me the most is the principle of Organization and Structure of Subject Matter.

Not known to many that when the subject matter to be learned and shared acquires organization, meaning, and the structure is clear and can be easily understood and followed by students, the momentum of the learning process can be rapid and can retain much longer. Indeed, this is highly true, in a teaching learning process the materials, although no one would literally and purposefully feed lessons and materials that is far fetched unclear, still the materials, lesson or course should be perceived by the learners as crystal clear to them. Furthermore, the subject matter should be one that the students can use and apply, and the content should be presented in a structured sequence that makes sense to the learners. It is most important to consider the perception of the learners beforehand to have a sensible and beneficial education that would leave a mark on the learners.

One big factor that I have learned in this principle is the fact that readiness is a prerequisite for learning and how notable are its essentials. In being ready it is significant for a teacher to know that the subject matter and learning experience must always begin at the learner’s level. This is to make sure that before giving any instructions regarding with the subject matter to be learned, the teacher now has an information on where to start. So that the subject matter and the learning process is not way beyond their prior knowledge and personal experiences. In this way, the learners would be more attentive and interested with. Therefore, checking upon the student’s learned knowledge on previous courses is crucial.

To sum it up, in the principle of organization and structure of subject matter, readiness, preparedness, and organization plays a significant role in the teaching learning process. That is why the subject matter and information that the teacher must feed upon the learner’s must be well- thought and planned, coincides with the learner’s prior knowledge and personal experience, and structured and organized clearly that make sense to the learners. With all these being done everything shall fall into place.

  2. Well it is true that we have different ways in how we all learn and that what works with you may not work with me. Though there are people who are similar in their manner of learning and you have pointed valuable informations too.
